Southland's helmets are a little hard to explain. They've had a different logo on each side of the helmet over the last few years. As the facemask points to the left, this logo can be seen on the helmet (a). When facing the other direction, Southland uses a “S” (b). During the 1990's, instead of the “S” on one side, they incorporated the Confederate Flag. They discontinued its use on the helmet either late in the 1990s, or early in the 2000's. I'm fairly certain that it was due to the inflammatory reaction many have when they see the Confederate Flag. More accurate dates would be helpful.
